Washington DC is the world’s most famous capital, and The White House is the world's most famous house, home to President Bush. And as Washington DC is where US Congress has been sitting since 1800, there is no shortage of attractions to see here!
Thanks to their location so close to each other, you can walk from the White House to ‘The Mall’, the wide green area just down from the White House. This is where you to find many city’s premier attractions such as the Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials and it is very easy to spend an afternoon walking around here.
But it’s not all about statues of dead presidents and memorials to fallen heroes. There are also some fascinating museums around DC, and to see what Washington is like without memorials, explore some of the city’s other suburbs such as Adams-Morgan and Georgetown.

Ever since 1800, every American president has resided in the White House when in office. Tours operating in the city take you through eight of the world famous house’s rooms, giving you some insight to life as the President of the United States of America.
Altogether the house has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the Residence. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases, and 3 elevators.
Previously known as the ‘President's House’, and ‘Executive Mansion’, it has officially been referred to as the ‘White House’ since President Theodore Roosevelt christened it with this title in 1901.

15th St NW at Constitution Avenue, Washington DC, USA
Built in memory of George Washington, this marble obelisk is (another) one of Washington’s best known landmarks. Standing at 555ft tall, it is one America’s tallest monuments and can be seen in the distance from many points in the city. The view from the base of the monument is just as impressive as the obelisk itself.

Another world-famous landmark, this is the point where Martin Luther King made his famous 'I have a dream...' speech. Dedicated to President Abraham Lincoln, it resembles a Greek Temple and has a monstrous statue of the president right in the middle of it.

Dedicated to the memory of the thousands who died in the well documented war, Vietnam Veterans Memorial is the most visited in Washington. Reading through the names of the soldiers who died between 1959 and 1975 is a somewhat somber experience but also a moving one which shouldn’t be missed on any trip to the American capital.

This burial ground is where over 260,000 Americans have been laid to rest, including John F. Kennedy where the 'Eternal Flame' is situated. One other part of the cemetery which should be visited is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
